Electrocoating

Cataphoretic coating

What does it mean and what can it be used for?

Electrocoating is a technology that uses electrochemical techniques for paint separation. The fundamental principle that makes electrocoating work is that opposite charges attract each other.  During the electrocoating process, the parts are dipped into a water based electrocoat tank, then electrical current is applied. As a result the paint is attracted to the part and a chemical, scratch and high corrosion-resistant coating is developed on the surface and cavities of the metal.

Electrocoat is used worldwide throughout various industries to coat a wide range of products including those in automotive, appliance, marine and agriculture. It is used for sheet and casting components - steel, galvanized steel, iron castings, aluminum castings, magnesium castings. The coating is black (RAL 9005), silky, epoxy based, with 10-40 micron film thickness. Curing takes place at a temperature of 155-200 ° C.

Useful tank size:

    length: 2.100 mm
    width:     500 mm
    height:    900 mm

Pretreatment:

The pretreatment process is essential for proper adhesion and excellent aesthetic appearance. The multi-stage degreasing, rinsing and adhesion-enhancing process is performed with special Chemetall chemicals. The parameters of the baths are measured and documented in our own laboratory.

Combination of Layers:

As a double coating, electrocoating can be applied to galvanic zinc layers. Electrocoated surfaces provide the best basis for layer combinations such as powder coat or solvent based coat.

Environmentally friendly:

The electrocoating process is an environmentally friendly coating method where water is used as a solvent. In accordance with environmental regulations, our own wastewater management ensures the neutralization and treatment of chemicals resulting from the technology itself.
